Welcome to the Southern Maine Christian Education Association web page. 2007 will be a transitional year for SMCEA. Patty Shepardson has resigned as the conference coordinator because of health issues and the rest of the Board has elected to use this time to regroup and reevaluate the situation for Christian education in the southern Maine area at this time. We welcome and need your input here. What are the needs in the local churches? What issues are important? Is the conference format helpful? What else would you suggest?

We also want to do what we can to help connect you with the resources that are currently available in this area. We have compiled a listing of events and organizations that may be of interest. Some of those listed are for specific events. Others are groups that will come to your church with a seminar on a specific topic or for a specific age group. Still others provide materials that may be of use to you in your ministry.

The annual Central Maine Christian Education Conference will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at Reeds Brook Middle School in Hampton, Maine from 9 AM to 3 PM. Rev. Wendall Calder will be the keynote speaker. Cost is $11 per person in groups of five or more. Individuals may register for $13. The “at-door” rate is $16. A lunch is available for $4 with your pre-registration.

Vision New England sponsors a number of different events that relate to Christian education. Some of them are listed here and others can be found on their website throughout the year. Equip is their primary general CE event. They have graciously offered a special rate this year for Equip to people who attend the Southern Maine CE Conference. (see below)

Equip is VNE’s Christian Education program. They have offered a special registration price of $55 per person which will be available to SMCEC attendees beginning immediately though the date of the conference. This rate is available to individual registrants and will be the same for group registrations also. The rate includes a Panera lunch. Tickets are transferable to another individual, but are not refundable.

To register, attendees should complete the hard-copy registration form, writing in large letters across the top of the form "SMCEC" and then in the payment section add a line item of "SMCEC $55". The form can be mailed to Vision New England, Equip 2006 Registration, 468 Great Road, Acton, MA 01720; or faxed to 978.929.9898. The special rate will NOT be available on-line. This is an outstanding conference that features Craig Jutilla of Saddleback and Chap Clark of Fuller Theological Seminary offering workshops for children and youth workers throughout the day. There will also be special "Safe Church" seminars throughout the day for pastors and church leaders as well as a special spiritual development series by CCEF. All workshop descriptions are available on-line.
